Chapeiry is surrounded by rolling green hills, dense forests, and the majestic Alps in the distance, Chapeiry offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. One of the most rewarding experiences in this area is the hike to a nearby waterfall, a journey that combines breathtaking scenery with the soothing sounds of nature.
I decided to do a lovely spring hike in Chapeiry near my home. The village is 20 km from Annecy and 10 km from Alby sur Chéran.
The hike typically begins in the heart of Chapeiry, where narrow, winding paths lead adventurers through lush meadows and fragrant pine forests. The trail is well-marked, making it accessible for hikers of all levels, though some sections may require a bit of stamina. As you ascend, the air becomes crisper, and the panoramic views of the valley below grow more stunning. The path is often lined with wildflowers in spring and summer, adding splashes of color to the verdant landscape.
After about an hour of hiking, the distant roar of the waterfall signals that you’re close. The final stretch of the trail may involve a gentle climb over rocks, but the effort is quickly forgotten once the waterfall comes into view. Cascading down moss-covered cliffs, the waterfall creates a misty spray that cools the air and invites visitors to pause and soak in the beauty. The pool at the base of the falls is a popular spot for a refreshing dip or a quiet picnic, with the sound of rushing water providing a peaceful soundtrack. In French, this waterfall is called “Le voile de la mariée”, the “the wedding veil”. You also have an amazing view on Semnoz mountain.
