Zermatt is a picturesque resort town nestled in the Swiss Alps, is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, outdoor activities and the iconic Matterhorn mountain. Located at an elevation of 1,620 meters (5,310 feet), Zermatt is car-free, which contributes to its serene atmosphere and charm. Visitors can access the town by train or shuttle from nearby transportation hubs, enhancing the experience of entering this alpine paradise.

One of the most striking features of Zermatt is its proximity to the Matterhorn, one of the most photographed mountains in the world. This distinctive pyramid-shaped peak rises to 4,478 meters (14,692 feet) and attracts climbers and tourists alike. The first successful ascent of the Matterhorn was in 1865, and since then, it has become a symbol of the Swiss Alps. Adventurers can attempt to scale its challenging slopes, though the trek requires proper equipment, training, and experience.

Surrounding Zermatt, the landscape boasts numerous other mountains and peaks, including the Weisshorn, Dom, and Dent Blanche. These majestic formations provide ample opportunities for skiing, hiking, and mountaineering. In summer, these paths are lined with vibrant alpine flowers and offer panoramic views that showcase the dramatic rock faces and glacial valleys.
In the winter months, Zermatt transforms into a snowy wonderland, making it a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding. The ski resort encompasses over 360 kilometers (224 miles) of pistes, catering to both beginners and seasoned skiers. The well-maintained slopes, combined with the stunning backdrop of the Alps, provide an unforgettable skiing experience. The region is also known for its reliable snow conditions, thanks to its high altitude.

Beyond skiing and hiking, Zermatt offers a rich cultural experience. The town features charming wooden chalets, traditional Swiss architecture and a variety of shops and restaurants serving local cuisine. Visitors can indulge in gourmet dining or enjoy a cozy meal of fondue after a day of exploring outside.
The cars need to stop at the bottom of Zermatt, next to the train station and as a French Taxi I can not go to the center of the city. I took the shuttle then took the cable car to the mountains then enjoyed a pik nik on the top with a lovely view.
