Kennel of St Bernard Dogs, les Houches

Visit the Kennel of St Bernard Dogs, les Houches!

Les Houches is a village before reaching Chamonix (when coming from Annecy), I will recommend to add this visit to your day trip in Chamonix.

This kennel can be visited in one hour approximately, the owner is a real passionate and love her dogs.

The short hairs St Bernard dogs was first used as a watch dog by the Monks of Grand St Bernard (Switzerland) but it became a rescue dog in the 18th century.

There is an entrance fee but to help this family to feed and take good care of the dogs.

At the end of the visit of the kennel, you will be able to take a photo with one of St Bernard dog.

The St. Bernard or St Bernard is a breed of very large working dog from the Alps in Italy, Switzerland and France.  They were originally bred for rscue work by the hospice of the Great St Bernard Pass monks . The hospice, built by and named after Italian monk Bernard of Menthon (the name also used for the Menthon St Bernard’s castle), acquired its first dogs between 1660 and 1670. The breed has become famous through tales of Alpine rescues, as well as for its large size.
