Sixt Fer à Cheval

Sixt Fer à Cheval is approximately 1h30 from Annecy. It is 6km from Samoens ski resort.

There you will admire: the amazing Waterfall of Rouget (the Queen of the Alps”, The Sixt Circus (the biggest in the Alps with big waterfalls), The Gorges of Tines.

This is the biggest natural reserve in Haute-Savoie, Grand Massif, in the Haut Giffre valley next to the Giffre river.

It was named Fer à Cheval as the cliffs have a horse shoe shape seen from the sky, it welcomes 500 000 visitors per year.

Sixt is classified as one of the most beautiful village of France, built around an old abbey built in the 12th century.

Clint Eastwood even shot a movie in the area (Hereafter”) as well as a few French movies.

Many hikes to do in Sixt Circus and also horse ridding.

The waterfall is approximately 20 min by car from the circus.

Please note that you will need to pay a parking fee at the Circus.

Kids can enjoy horseriding at the entrance of the Circus.

Sixt Fer à cheval is a lovely place for a pik nik.

Below the waterfall of Rouget

Cascade du Rouget is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the French Alps and is 90 meters high. The nickname of the waterfall is “Queen of the Alps”. In 2009 cascade du Rouget was voted to be the most beautiful waterfall of France. It is certainly one of the most beautiful ones of France.

On the way to Cascade du Rouget you drive by a twin waterfall Cascade de Saubaudy and Cascade du Dechargeux. In Sixt Fer a Cheval you can visit a very tall waterfall Cascade de Pissevache (Cirque du Fer a Cheval).
