Talloires

Talloires is my favourite village by the lake, it is a picturesque village renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich history. Often referred to as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Talloires captivates visitors with its crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and stunning Alpine backdrop. The village is a perfect blend of tranquility and elegance, making it a popular destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Talloires is steeped in history, dating back to the 9th century when it was home to a Benedictine abbey. The Abbey of Talloires, founded in 816, remains a significant landmark and a symbol of the village’s spiritual heritage. Today, the abbey is a luxury hotel, offering guests a unique opportunity to stay in a historic setting while enjoying modern comforts.

Talloires is equally celebrated for its gastronomy. The village boasts several Michelin-starred restaurants (L’auberge du Père Bise, Bistrot 1903, L’Abbaye…), where visitors can savor traditional Savoyard dishes and fresh local produce. The weekly market is a delight for food lovers, offering cheeses, charcuterie, and other regional specialties.
Famous people stayed in Talloires: French chemist Claude Berthollet, Mark Twain in 1891, Paul Cézanne who painted the “Lake Blue” now in a London Museum, Jean Reno, Bruce Willis, Brigitte Bardot, Charlie Chaplin, Queen Mother of England, Winston Churchill, Walt Disney…
