This post is about the Mer de Glace/Montenvers Train in Chamonix. Departing from Chamonix, this little train takes you to Montenvers 1913 m high with an amazing view on Mer de Glace glacier, the Drus and Grands Jorasses.
The Mer de Glace glacier in Chamonix has been retreating significantly due to climate change, with a reduction in thickness of over 100 meters since the mid-19th century. Rising temperatures and decreased snowfall contribute to this phenomenon, highlighting the impacts of global warming on alpine glaciers.
