Visit of a cheese farm in Semnoz

Here is a post about my visit of a Cheese farm in Semnoz.  I visited the lovely GAEC Les Noisetiers (making AOP Abondance cheese) with cows.

We were welcomed by the Jacquot family, the summer farm is between the top of Semnoz (combe du Villard) and Leschaux (their winter home). The visit of the farm is in French (but quite easy to undersand) it lasts approximately one hour but you need to book in advance 0681083637 / 0650102539 or via the tourist office in Annecy.

The tour of the farm includes a cheese tasting, really good!! You can also show up from end of June until end of August at 16h30 for the milking of the cows.

You can just go there to buy cheese and local products as they also have a shop there.

If you are only here in the winter you can also book a tour during the winter in their farm in Leschaux.

I really enjoyed the visit and we felt very welcome as they are happy to share their passion with us!

Update 06/2025, the farm is short of staff so the visits will only be on Mondays and Thursdays in July and August.

Here the VIP is the abondance cheese which is a semi-hard cheese produced in the  Haute-Savoie region in the French Alps. It is made from cow’s milk and is known for its creamy texture and rich, nutty flavor, which intensifies with aging. The cheese has a reddish-brown washed rind, characteristic of traditional Alpine cheeses. Abondance is often used in fondues and gratins or enjoyed on its own with bread and fruits. It is protected by the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) designation, ensuring its quality and origin.
