Auberge du Lyonnais

L’Auberge du Lyonnais is a lovely typical French restaurant in the Old Town by the canal. During the summer you can enjoy the terrasse but inside is lovely too with a fish aquarium. The Auberge is probably one of the place in the area to enjoy fish and sea dishes.

The menu is not that long but the food is homemade and excellent! Something unusual in a touristic place…

The owner is really nice and welcoming, the staff is very good and efficient!

The building is classé au patrimoine historique (which means it is part of the city history and you can not make major changes to it to respect its past). It is also a hotel with a few rooms. It was built more than 100 years ago, it has been officially a restaurant since 1936. Its name never changed and has been transfered from generation to generation. Flora and Jean-Marie Saulnier, the owners during WW2, used it to help the Resistance Haute-Savoyarde (it was a place for meetings, a mail box, illegal newspapers…). You still have in the walls and ceilings some hiding places. If you have any further questions, please ask Dominique who will be happy to talk about his place.

Bon appétit!
